Day 78
Today has been a good day. I haven’t left the house all day. Just taking it easy with some fraternity brothers: John, Mike, Mark, Tom and Barry.
I just lost at poker. Not a big surprise considering that I never play. I don’t mind, but it was fun to play for awhile. Before lunch we ate brat burgers. Yeah, they were new to me, too. These are hamburger patties made from bratwurst sausage. WAY better than a traditional hamburger. Leave it to the Iowans to come up with yet another delicious way to serve pork. So good. But if lunch was good, dinner has the potential to be even better. There are 6 enormous porterhouse steaks sitting on the counter now soaking in the salt that was liberally sprinkled on them earlier this afternoon. I’m looking forward to eating mine. At least part of it. No way I’ll be able to finish all of it.
We didn’t go skiing today - too cold. Minus 2 when we woke up this morning. Hard pass. It’s supposed to be warmer tomorrow so we are going. At least I think we are. Just not sure what time we will hit the slopes. I heard someone say we should be there at 7:30 even though the mountain doesn’t open until 8:30. I think it has to do with getting a parking spot.
Had some good 1-on-1 conversations today. Spoke to Mark briefly this morning before having longer conversations with Mike and Tom. They obviously care and are glad to see me. I do wish that I could have brought Damian with me so the guys could have met him. I think they would have liked him. Damian would have enjoyed the banter. Maybe a little too much.
I’m glad that I made the trip. I do think this has been good for me. Probably for Dawn, too. I’m sure she’s having fun down in Tucson. We are both learning that we can be away from each other. At least for a little while.
Well, wish me luck. By the time I check in tomorrow, I’ll have hit the slopes. Hopefully, they don’t hit me back. [Me biting my nails nervously…]
