Day 114

Long day today. Did a lot. Probably too much. There are multiple signs indicating as much. That, I'm going to keep this short. Here is another letter that Dawn and I received from one of Damian's classmates not long after he died.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Beisner,

I didn't know Damian extremely well, but I did have classes with him and I was in his class for a long time. (I was also in Drivers Ed class at summer.) From what I remember about Damian was that he was shy, sweet, understanding, and very chill.  I had never seen him angry or sad. He was always mellow and enthusiastic about his passions in life, funny ideas, and whenever he was with friend.

A friend of mine that isn't at Lakeview anymore had heard the news. As I was talking to the friend, they told me about a memory they had had of Damian before they left school. My friend was not doing well at the time. They were getting bullied and toxic relationships. Before my friend left, Damian had asked them if they were okay and that if they needed any help or someone to talk to, that he was there for them. My friend told me that his offer had touched their heart and made them feel appreciated and seen before they left.

Damian was really cool and always nice to others. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Natalie

Natalie,

Thank you for sharing your memories of Damian and that of your friend, as well. Mrs. Beisner and I often referred to Damian as an "old soul". His sense of empathy was always far advanced for his age. He was very loyal to his friends and was always ready to protect them if necessary.

Damian,

Once again, I reminded of the lives you touched and the positive impact you had on those around you. I hope you had some sense of this before you left us.

I think of you every day and have nothing but love in my heart for you.

Dad
